How to record long trace sessions?

29-Aug-2023

If longer trace sessions are required, e.g. for coverage measurement during system tests, make sure that your system is set up optimally.

Optimal PC setup:
  • Multi-core CPU (for optimal distribution of workload during profiler or coverage analysis)
  • 4GB RAM minimum, 8GB or more RAM recommended
  • %TEMP% folder located on an NVMe SSD drive, with 100GB free disk space or more (optionally use %ISYSTEM_TEMP% environment variable to change the directory where temporary files are stored)
  • Free USB 3.0 port for use with the newer generation of BlueBox-es
  • iC5700, which features more trace RAM, as well as USB 3.0 support

Optimal target system configuration:
  • Target board with a trace port:
    • maximum port width available
    • differential signaling, if available (Aurora Gigabit Trace on TriCore, PowerPC and RH850, HSSTP on Cortex)
  • PCB layout which allows for the fastest trace streaming
