Dumping ELF file in winIDEA

23-Sep-2022

ELF files can be dumped in winIDEA to check their content.

Possible solution:

1. Open Debug menu / Configure Session / Applications / Symbol Files.

2. Right click on the ELF file and select Dump ELF. TXT file will be generated.

You can do the same also for ELF files added to the Program Files or Target Files page in Debug menu / Configure Session / SoCs.

Dump ELF uses GCC readelf utility, which is part of winIDEA installation. This utility can be used independently from winIDEA and with very specific options for even more detailed inspection of the ELF files. If the information you are looking for is not in the TXT file, check if your ELF file was properly built (debug information options, correct source files, …).
