No debug line symbols shown in winIDEA Editor

winIDEA does not show debug line symbols in the Editor, or they are shown on wrong lines.

Assuming that the compiler generates debug symbol information and winIDEA source file Directories are correctly configured - see topic Cannot locate source code


Possible solution: 

Use GCC readelf utility with command line option:

--debug-dump=decodedline

to cross-check.


Example:

The following example shows correct debug line symbols:



Adding to the command line readelf.exe --debug-dump=decodedline sample.elf >> dump_line.txt displays:


Debug line symbol present for file entry.c, line 5, points to address 0xFEE0'1766. Readelf.exe is bundled with winIDEA - you can find it it in winIDEA root folder.
